Shiritsu Muroran Aquarium
Its 1953 grand opening makes it the aquarium of the longest standing history in Hokkaido.
The main attraction is the jellyfish exhibition space. The bright floating jellyfish brings about a wonderful ambience to experience. You can also view the gallant march of our Humboldt Penguins as they stroll along the long outdoor course each day at 11:00 and 15:00.
Dolphin & Whale Watching
Uchiura Bay, which embraces the “Muroran Peninsula”, holds years of whale and dolphin passage. A beautiful sea location where you may encounter many kinds of seabirds, the time between May and August is the also best for watching boats and ships cruise in the open waters. Factory Nightscape
Encompassed by 3 sides of sea waters, here was the choice location for the opening of a coal distribution port that began to revitalize the area from 1872. Through the development of shipbuilding, the steel industry, oil refining and more, the harbors came to be a most important aspect of Muroran’s foundation. From the illumination of the stacked factories you can see the largest suspension bridge of eastern Japan – Hakucho “Swan” Bridge – surely a scene to remember.
Sokuryoyama Observatory
From Sokuryoyama Observatory you are able to enjoy a wide 360-degree panoramic masterpiece. On clear sunny days, you can see Mt. Yotei in the background of the Hakucho Bridge and factory-scape. The night view is spectacular representation of Muroran as the surrounding area is alit with particular emphasis on the Hakucho Bridge and factory setting.
Hakucho “Swan” Bridge
The Hakucho Bridge is eastern Japan’s largest suspension bridge with a length of 1,380 meters. In the evening, you can see the beautiful elegance of Muroran harbor with the Swan Bridge illumination generated by windmills that line it.
Toritatsu
A most popular local “yakitori” (grilled chicken) restaurant frequented by families from each generation. Muroran yakitori, prepared from Hokkaido pork loin, has always been a large-cut meat since its origin. The slightly sweet sauce gives a thick juicy taste best fit for meat-eaters of all ages.
Taste of Daio Muroran
A long-established famous store of “Original Muroran Curry Ramen”. The secret soup that cherishes the balance of salty, sweet, and spicy flavor is exquisite. Please enjoy the taste of “original ancestry” with a history of 40 years.
Shunna Dining Fukuwarai
The only authentic Chinese restaurant in the Lanxi area. Recommended for the Kuro Soi (Black Soi) specialty of Muroran, a carefully “whole steamed soi fish” (reservation required)”. Please enjoy with the special fish dew sauce!
Nadai Tenshou
A long established shop of Edo tempura, which has been loved by local citizens for 90 years since its founding (est. Taisho Year 9). Recommended for its “Sushi Bowl” with superb flavor and generous choice of sweet sauce and fresh plump fried shrimp. Be sure to try this exceptional dish!
Kobune
A relaxed environment feels as if you are “home” in this friendly, reasonable pub. Deep-fried snow crabs that are carefully handmade and prepared at the shop. With a fragrant smell, the crab meat becomes an almost fluffy texture! A menu full of snow crab – we also offer delicious Shiitake mushrooms sure to delight.
